Are you a self-taught developer?
In 2009 I finally decided to learn HTML & CSS. After years of procrastinating, I took a chance on building a website for my scanning business. So I bought this book on Amazon.com Although the books was very easy to follow and learn .Unfortunately it took me 3 months to build a 4 page website. A few weeks later I learned about WordPress which was an easier platform to build a website. WordPress did not require a lot of coding. The template was a website, so I would just customize WordPress themes with my knowledge of HTML & CSS. To be honest, I should’ve kept learning HTML & CSS. For the next 10 years I would customize WordPress websites for families, friends, and small business clients.
What languages would you recommend learning for 2022?
To start. I would learn HTML/CSS & Java Script, these are considered entry level languages. I would throw React in their as well.
What is the role of email developer?
Email developers are knowledgeable experts who can create customized, personalized email templates from scratch. Additionally, they can incorporate the created email templates into your ESP (email service provider) and guarantee that they render flawlessly on all platforms and mobile clients.
Do I only need HTML and CSS for HTML email development?
Yes, pretty much, pretty much that’s all you need. But again, if I were you, I would learn a little bit more of a basic JavaScript language as well. To be honest, having basic HTML/CSS & JavaScript would be enough to get you started as an Email Developer. After customization WordPress websites over the years. I was confident that I would be able to do the same with Email templates. Although I had to learn Tables which was different, but if you know HTML/CSS language it shouldn’t be a hard transition.
Where should I learn Email Development?
Okay, you have a guy name Joe from coding phase. He popped up on my screen on Youtube one day and here I am with a job now. Joe has a lot of courses that will get you hired as an Email Developer. Although I didn’t take his full course package. I did purchase the email course for a few months. You also have Ivan hurt he’s like a mentor to me. He helped me out tremendously, he’s a good guy. He would always respond to my emails, and sometimes he would send me job leads. I offered to pay him but he declined every time. Please subscribe to his Youtube channel as well Ivan Hurt There’s also W3newbie. That’s a YouTube channel as well. This guy, he shows you how to build out the HTML templates with tables. He also has a Udemy course that I purchased. It’s pretty good.
Is Salesforce something I should learn in HTML Email Development?
I’m gonna say you don’t need it, but you should learn it. A lot of my interviews consist of the hiring managers asking if I new Salesforce. Unfortunately I didn’t. When I was asked automation questions. They knew I didn’t have much experience with email automation. I would definitely learn Salesforce. I’m not saying you need a certification to get a marketing cloud job. You just need to learn Salesforce and know how to navigate it and learn the language of Salesforce. And you should be fine.
Do they hire email development remotely?
Yes, they do. I’m currently working from home 100% remote. Email Developer Jobs are all over the country and all over the world. You have some companies that go hybrid. Of course some companies want you to come into the office.. 100% but not all. It is a variety. Companies are constantly hiring 100% remote for Email Developers. I am sure if I wanted to work in the office I would’ve gotten hired much sooner, but I opted for %100 remote.
How long would it take to become an email developer if i know nothing about code?
To be honest It depends on you. Really it does. How much do you want to hustle, how much you want to grind or whatever. In my opinion, I would say three to five months maybe. Again, I was working on my HTML CSS website, for three months and I only had four pages completed. The website was only a four page paper scanning website business. In those three to five months, I grasped the concept of the HTML CSS language. At minimum I learn about open and closed tags which helped me learn the language sooner than later.
After all the coding and testing is done, who do you send campaign too? Or will someone else do the sending?
If you work at a smaller agency, you probably will be doing all of the coding, testing and email campaigns. At bigger agencies/firms most of your duties will be separately delegated to a certain team or department. Your team will focus on one duty or task for that individual team. Now at my firm, I think they want us to learn all phases. Now that doesn’t mean we’re going to be doing all three phases. At the same time. Sometimes somebody else may code it. Sometimes they may trigger an email and send it out. Sometimes they might want somebody else to test. It just depends, for the most part. I build the code and trigger (send the email).
What is HTML table base coding?
It’s an outdated way of coding layouts for email. Companies use it a lot because it’s more compatible and it renders very well with most email clients, but if there was anything better out there, I think they would’ve used it. They have different software that have drag & drop capabilities, but HTML tables produces better results in emails. Plus it is a better user experience for client’s subscribers.
Do you work 9-5 m-f working as a email dev? Or is it a job you can work remotely and have multiple email dev jobs?
I work 9am to 6pm daily as an email developer. My position is called an HTML Developer, It is the same thing as an Email Developer, it just has a different name. I’ve heard Joe on Coding Phase mentioned one of his former students had two remote jobs. It paid $100k on one job, and another $1ook on his other job. To be honest, I will say it depends on your learning curve and the training on your first job. If your first job does not require extensive training and you are picking up on the duties of your job, if you have a lot of down town in between campaigns, I would definitely take a chance on the second job. Hopefully it won’t stress you. Also be cognizant of jobs that meet several times of the day. That may interrupt your job duties from your other job.
Does companies require you to build email templates from scratch?
Most of them don’t, the bigger the company, the more templates they have access to. So you will be replacing the text with their text, replace the images with the companies images in the links as well, and that’s pretty much it. They go by modules like module one, module two, module three and sometimes module four, you just go in and replace the text they want. My company gives us a spreadsheet with everything on it. You will replace the texts, the links, images etc. Smaller agencies may require you to build emails from scratch due to low budget and team production.
